CDMenuPro - ArchiveSafe

Protecting data on the CD against unauthorized access

ArchiveSafe is an add-on program for CDMenuPro that has been designed to protect sensitive data against unauthorized access. It works by encoding the files with a password of your choice, compressing them and finally by saving them in an archive file. The files within the archive can be linked directly to a CDMenuPro button. CDMenuPro also enables you to un-zip the entire archive into a target folder of your choice.

In addition to the password option, you can also make access to the archive dependent on a license agreement.

Information about the unregistered version
None of the files are encoded or compressed in the unregistered version.

How to create an archive

ArchiveSafe's user interface has been designed to reflect the best known and most widespread zip program - WinZip - and can be used on an intuitive basis.

To create a new archive select "New" from the menu or toolbar. A project assistant is started, which will take you through the archive creation process.

Access limitation
This is where you determine the way in which the archive file is to be protected. If you select "Password", all the files will be protected by means of a password. Alternatively or additionally, you can also define a license agreement, which has to be confirmed before the archive can be opened.

Define password
Define your password here. This password is used to encode the files in the archive. Your password has to be between 8 and 30 characters long.

License agreement
If you select the "License agreement" option, you have to enter the path of the file containing the license agreement. This has to be a text file. (.txt, created using Notepad)

Path details

Do not save path details
This option makes it possible to add files from any folder to the archive. All the files will be un-zipped into the same folder during the un-packing process.

Save path details
This option makes it possible only to add files that are contained in the same folder as the archive file or in one of this folder's sub folders. The sub-folders will be created automatically during the un-zipping process.

Save
Select a folder and save the archive with a name of your choice.

Auto Start
As an option you can also select a file from the archive to start or to be displayed automatically once the entire archive has been un-zipped.
To do this, please proceed as follows:
  • Highlight the file in the archive window.
  • Select the following from the menu bar: "Options - Archive options"
  • Confirm setting

How to proceed when using password-protected archives

If you would like to link password-protected files that are in ArchiveSafe with CDMenuPro, we recommend proceeding as follows:

  • Use the same password for all your archives.
  • Move the password request into the menu start. To do this select the following from the menu bar: "Properties - Access Control...".
  • Activate the "Password needed" and "Use this password for all ArchiveSafe access requests" fields and specify your password.
  • Also move your licence agreement and notes on use to here if possible.

If you proceed in this way when an ArchiveSafe file is opened, this central password will be used and the user will only be asked to enter the password once.
